I had no chance of a job, no apartment, no car, no savings. So I had this crazy idea to write a novel. “Everyone said you must be joking or mad because the odds of being released are 100 to 1, even thousands.” Within weeks of its release, the film rights were optioned. Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars were in the running to play the Jackal in the 1973 film, but then-unknown Edward Fox was cast because director Fred Zinnemann thought he could weave his way through the crowd.

Even though he’s the supposed villain, the audience can’t help but root for him in this cat-and-mouse story. The one exception was Lashana Lynch, who has no acting chops, emotions or facial expressions. How she was cast, I don’t know! I suppose she was more of a British brand in her quest for diversity.
