Army sends out a volunteer company to patrol the uncharted western territories. The dialogue and thoughts expressed are those that the actors came up with while living in the wilderness and imagining themselves as soldiers in the Civil War.
Packed with beautiful camerawork and a meditative study of the Civil War era and its characters, Minervini provides an interesting new approach to discussing the aimless and terrible journey of soldiers wondering and observing their surroundings and the battles of war. Strong sound design, natural acting, and camerawork help to complete the tone, atmosphere, and setting.
Including good direction used throughout and some of the battle sequences are well directed and presented. Overall, this beautiful and mediating approach to the Civil War is something that caught my attention.
I know a lot of people won’t like this one, but I really like this one.
