Here’s my problem

James Patterson’s series of novels about the complex and brilliant detective Alex Cross. Hodges is the third actor to portray Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first portrayed him on screen in the 1997 film Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 film sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the title character in the 2012 film Alex Cross, which bombed at the box office and caused Lionsgate to scrap its previously planned sequel Double Cross.. I started following Ald Hodges’ career when I fell in love with his character in Leverage. His performance as "hacker" Hardison was great, and I totally buy his performance as Alex Cross. The writing is strong, the performances are great all around, and the direction and editing are top notch.

The lighting stinks

I don’t know anyone who lives every moment of their indoor life in such darkness. I’m only 40 minutes into the first episode, but I’m already struggling to see the details of many of the scenes. Three scenes in particular stand out. First, there was the cocktail lounge. I don’t frequent cocktail lounges and bars myself, but even the darkest restaurant I’ve ever been to had enough lighting to allow me to see the faces of the other people at the table.

The second was the bad guy’s lair

Would anyone working on detailed plans and projects really do so in such dim lighting? Surely a perfectionist wants to be able to see everything he or she is doing clearly. Third, there’s the house where Alex arrives for dinner. This isn’t a romantic dinner for two. This is a family and friends get-together.

Why so dark?

The entire house is dark – the hallway, the living room, and the dining room. Plus, every room in the police building is dark. Wouldn’t a forensic pathologist have a very well-lit operating room? If they’re trying to create a mood, I’m more focused on the visuals than the plot and dialogue. That’s a choice that a lot of shows have made in recent years.

My Father certainly couldn’t

You know, anyone with poor eyesight simply wouldn’t be able to watch it. That being said, I could be wrong about the reason for the darkness. I stopped watching "How I Met Your Father" on another streaming service because it was also so dark it was unpleasant. A little digging around online revealed that the problem was with the service, not the show. When the show aired on the network, the lighting was just fine.
